Stop Calling Automation ‘AI’

Stop Calling Automation ‘AI’

Understanding the difference between automation and AI is essential for how we use technology effectively as it impacts strategy and resource allocation. Automation improves efficiency by streamlining tasks, while AI introduces intelligence and adaptability to enhance decision-making. Clearly defining the role of each technology allows us to create a strategic adoption plan that optimizes tool use and encourages innovation for forward-thinking processes.

Welcome to the Messy Middle

Hi, I'm Shmuel, and I'm trying to figure out this whole AI thing in real time – with all the confusion, course corrections, and occasional moments of clarity that come with it.

You won't find breathless predictions about AI solving everything or dramatic warnings about robot overlords here. Instead, this is where I document what actually happens when regular humans try to navigate this technological shift thoughtfully. It turns out that gap between "AI can do amazing things" and "how do I actually make this work in my life" is where most of us are living right now.

My background is in Religious and Middle Eastern Studies (yes, really), which taught me to be comfortable with complexity and skeptical of simple narratives – skills that turn out to be surprisingly useful when everyone's trying to predict the future of work. I'm particularly interested in the human side of this transition: why some people adapt easily while others struggle, how organizations can implement AI without creating chaos, and how we can make this work for everyone, not just the early adopters.

This isn't a guru situation. I'm learning alongside you, sharing what works, what doesn't, and what questions we should probably be asking. If you're looking for someone to tell you definitively what's coming next, you're in the wrong place. But if you want to join someone figuring it out with intellectual honesty and real-world focus, welcome.

Let's navigate this transition together.
